OperStack vs Ahrefs: weekly ChatGPT and Perplexity checks with the fix written out
OperStack Watch follows 10 buyer questions in ChatGPT and Perplexity weekly, identifies the businesses named instead of you, measures 3 rivals and sends page findings with proposed text for $35 monthly. Ahrefs Custom Prompts starts at $50 monthly; Lite includes a smaller allowance alongside its SEO suite for $129. Watch combines recurring comparison with an editing task, while Ahrefs supplies wider research and tracking options.

What you get for $35: one real week of OperStack Watch
This is the actual first report for a Phuket property brand we run, run on 26 September 2026 by the same code subscribers get. We hide the brand name because it is our own site, not a client.
Watch keeps this work going every 7 days: the same 10 buyer questions, the businesses named in the answers, 3 rivals measured beside your site and repeated page checks. Later reports compare the new observation with the previous week and include proposed fixes for the pages checked. You review and publish the changes.
-
"Best property advisors for foreign buyers in Phuket?"
not named Named instead: Butler Estates, Freedom Group Real Estate, ZODIAC Co., Ltd., Storm Real Estate, Subata Realty
-
"Which property buyer’s advisors should I use for researching beachfront and branded residences in Phuket?"
not named Named instead: Butler Estates, Issara Property, Pearl Property Phuket, Subata Realty, Twins Real Estate
-
"Who can help me compare Phuket condo and villa projects with a shortlist?"
named the site Also named: Etagi, Colliers, THAI.ESTATE, AIProperty Phuket
The fix of the week, as it arrived
For the question "Top firms to help foreign buyers evaluate Phuket developments before reservation?"
Add this to your homepage, just below the first section.
Before you publish: add the words "developments" to this paragraph if you sell them.
Every sentence in the paragraph comes from the site's own pages; the tool checks each one against a quote before it goes in. Answers change from run to run, so Watch asks the same ten questions every week and shows the trend. Seven days free, then $35 a month.
What are OperStack and Ahrefs for?
OperStack Watch combines 10 weekly buyer questions in ChatGPT and Perplexity, a sample of your pages and written fixes in one email for $35 a month. Ahrefs sells SEO research and several AI products. Its standalone Custom Prompts package starts at $50; Lite includes a smaller prompt allowance alongside the SEO suite.
-
It reads your pages, not only your name. The free Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker asks for a brand name and reads none of your pages. The OperStack free check asks for your address, reads up to ten pages sampled from your sitemap, and scores each one on five groups of checks for readable, attributable content. Watch re-reads ten pages every week. Ahrefs Site Audit crawls far more pages, but it looks for SEO issues, and the Ahrefs pages we read do not describe it checking whether a page opens with an answer an AI system could lift.
-
It writes the paragraph for you. If a page it reads lacks a short opening answer, the free check drafts one from what your own pages say, with a “Copy the text” button under it. Watch selects one priority fix from the sampled pages each week, with the page address and proposed words to review. The writing help Ahrefs sells for existing pages is titles and meta descriptions, through Ask AI in Project Boost Pro at $20 a month per project. Ready answer paragraphs are not stated on its pages.
-
It names who ChatGPT recommended instead, even for free. The free check asks ChatGPT three buyer questions with web search on and lists the names it gave, sorted into real competitors, non-competitors such as portals and law firms, and names it could not identify. The free Ahrefs checker has no competitor comparison; Ahrefs keeps that for paid Brand Radar.
-
It sends one email a week with what changed. Every 7 days from the day you subscribe, Watch emails whether ChatGPT and Perplexity named you for each of ten questions, who they named in your place, how three rivals measure up beside you and what moved since the last letter. Ahrefs emails Rank Tracker reports weekly or monthly; a weekly Brand Radar email is not stated on the pages we read.
-
Its free ChatGPT questions are asked live. Each free check puts three questions to ChatGPT at the moment you run it, allows up to three such runs per connection per day, and shows the saved answer if you repeat the same site within 24 hours. The Ahrefs checker shows a top-five preview from search-backed prompts derived from what people search for, not questions you write, and Ahrefs calls it a one-time snapshot.
-
Monitoring and page work share one subscription. Watch is $35 a month or $299 a year on our pricing page. Ahrefs Custom Prompts starts at $50 monthly for 2,500 checks; Lite includes 5 prompts with its SEO suite for $129, and the index costs $199 a month for one AI platform or $699 for all of them. The index is optional and is not required to buy Custom Prompts.
-
It needs no developer and no SEO skills. Text fixes arrive with wording to review and paste; where a change needs a developer, the letter flags it. It is written for the person who owns the business, not for a specialist reading a dashboard.
-
You can try it and leave. The first 7 days of Watch are free and you can cancel any time. Ahrefs has no free trial, and its pricing page says it does not issue refunds in general.
What is Ahrefs for, and what is OperStack for?
Ahrefs is an SEO data platform with AI tracking added as a paid module; OperStack is an AI visibility tool that does one job.
OperStack, in plain words
OperStack has two parts: the free check described above, and Watch, which turns it into a weekly letter with ten questions, three rivals and the priority page fix. It holds no keyword or backlink data. Our Semrush comparison looks at the other large suite in the same terms.
How much does Ahrefs cost with AI visibility included?
On 3 October 2026, Ahrefs advertised standalone Custom Prompts from $50 monthly, equivalent to $600 across twelve payments. Lite costs $129 monthly and includes 5 tracked prompts. The wider AI Visibility Index starts at $199 separately. OperStack Watch costs $35 monthly or $299 when paid for a year.
| Option | Month to month | Paid yearly | Trial | AI visibility included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs Free plus the AI Visibility Checker | $0 | $0 | Not a trial: free, no expiry, no card | Top 5 per section, no competitor view, no history |
| Ahrefs Starter | $29 | Not offered | None | Tracked AI prompts not listed for Starter |
| Ahrefs Custom Prompts Basic | $50 | $600 across monthly payments; annual rate not stated | None stated | 2,500 checks monthly |
| Ahrefs Lite | $129 | $1,290 | None | 5 tracked AI prompts, 150 checks a month |
| Ahrefs Standard | $249 | $2,490 | None | 10 tracked AI prompts, 300 checks a month |
| Brand Radar index, one platform | from $199 extra | Not stated | None | Ahrefs’ prompt index on one AI platform |
| Brand Radar index, all platforms | $699 extra | Not stated | None | 83 prompts a day, 2,500 custom checks a month |
| OperStack Watch | $35 | $299 | 7 days free, card at checkout | ChatGPT and Perplexity, 10 buyer questions weekly, 3 rivals, fix text |
Four details change the real Ahrefs bill.
There is no trial. The pricing FAQ says Ahrefs never runs discounts and points website owners to Ahrefs Free instead. Every paid plan is paid from day one.
Annual billing saves up to 17%. Lite drops from $1,548 over twelve monthly payments to $1,290 paid once, and the switch goes through Ahrefs support. Watch for a year is $299, less than a quarter of that.
Brand Radar can stand alone. Ahrefs sells the index by itself, and it comes with an Ahrefs Free account, so a business that only wants ChatGPT data does not have to buy Lite first. That route still costs $199 a month for one platform, which is $2,388 over a year of monthly billing (our arithmetic).
Stacking adds up quickly. Lite plus Brand Radar on all platforms is $828 a month, or $9,936 across a year of monthly billing (our arithmetic from the pricing page). More custom checks come in packs: Basic at $50 a month adds 2,500, Growth at $100 adds 7,000, Scale at $250 adds 25,000, and overage runs from 1 to 2 cents a check.
Is Ahrefs Brand Radar worth it for a small business?
For a local business, check whether the index covers the actual questions that matter. Ahrefs itself warns that the index “may have limited coverage for brands with little or no search volume”, and the custom prompts that would fill that gap are capped at 5 on Lite. A $35 weekly check on ChatGPT and Perplexity, with the fix written out, is the more direct route for most owners.
The reason lies in how the index is built. Brand Radar draws its prompts from Ahrefs keyword data: 448 million of them according to the Brand Radar page, 449 million on the free checker page and 475 million on the pricing page, and we give all three because the pages disagree. The prompts are re-tested monthly over a 90-day window. A family law office serving one county may turn up in none of them, because its category is never typed into Google often enough to become an index prompt. A dental clinic in one suburb may be in the same position.
Custom prompts are the workaround, and on Lite the arithmetic is tight. Ahrefs counts one prompt on one platform in one location as one check. Five prompts run daily on ChatGPT use the whole 150-check allowance, so adding a second platform means cutting prompts or buying a pack. One Claude update costs 8 checks. Lite bundles SEO tools, so dividing its entire price by 150 checks would misrepresent the cost of its AI feature. A buyer who only needs selected questions can consider the separate $50 Custom Prompts package. Page review and publication remain separate tasks.
A quick test before paying: type your brand into the free Ahrefs checker, which also uses search-backed prompts. A sparse result suggests checking coverage before buying the index; custom prompts are a different product and can investigate a brand with little indexed history. Then run the OperStack free check on your address: three buyer questions asked the way your buyers ask them, answered live by ChatGPT, with the names it gave in your place.
How does each tool check AI visibility?
OperStack connects a record of 10 questions answered by ChatGPT and Perplexity with checks of up to 10 pages and suggestions for improving them. Ahrefs Custom Prompts records questions you select, while its separate Brand Radar index searches a stored collection. A page score identifies measurable weaknesses; it cannot establish why an assistant chose a particular business.
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | OperStack Watch | |
|---|---|---|
| What you enter | A brand name | A site address |
| Questions | Index prompts built from keyword data; custom prompts from 5 (Lite) | 10 buyer questions, unchanged week to week |
| How often | Index re-tested monthly; custom prompts daily, weekly or monthly | Every 7 days from your subscription date |
| Competitors | Share of voice against the competitors you track | Names ChatGPT and Perplexity gave instead of you, plus 3 rivals measured beside you |
| Your own pages | Pages that AI answers cite are listed | 10 pages scored on five areas every week |
| What you act on | Mentions, cited domains and cited pages | A page address and a paragraph to paste |
The OperStack score is the layer that turns a mention count into a to-do list. It is built from five areas with published weights, so you can add it up by hand. Access, 25 points, comes from the robots.txt rules for 14 AI crawlers and fetchers. A map for agents, 15 points, comes from llms.txt. Entity, 20 points, comes from business schema, FAQ markup, page type, canonical tags and Open Graph. Quotable content, 25 points, asks for 300 or more words, an answer-first paragraph with a figure right after the H1, at least three H2 sections and a table. Dates and sources, 15 points, looks for dates in meta or schema, named sources and sitemap dates. Brand Radar tells you whether you are mentioned. The score supplies page findings, and Watch proposes edits for review.
A note on Ahrefs’ own pages, because they disagree with each other. A help-center article, “What is Ahrefs”, lists ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Grok and mentions seven AI indexes, while the Brand Radar page has no Grok. The free checker’s introduction names five platforms and its FAQ adds AI Mode as a sixth. For the table above we used the Brand Radar page.
Who writes the prompts differs too. In Ahrefs you type them or let AI generate them, then decide which to keep. In Watch the ten questions are the kind your buyers ask, and they stay fixed, so a change between weeks reflects the answer, not a new question.
What each tool tells a business owner on a Monday morning
An OperStack subscriber receives 1 email per week with named businesses, page findings and draft fixes. An Ahrefs user can receive SEO reports and open Brand Radar for AI results. Your useful next step is the same in either case: decide which finding warrants an edit, then record what you changed.
OperStack Watch turns the same 10 weekly questions into a record a business can keep reviewing. Each report identifies the businesses named in those answers, checks up to 10 of your pages and measures 3 rivals beside you. Later emails compare the new observation with the previous week, so the owner can follow a particular question across reports instead of relying on a remembered screenshot. The page findings and proposed wording make the record actionable, while the editor retains control of what gets published. For an Ahrefs user, assign that record to a concrete decision: which commercially relevant page deserves attention this week? Keep keyword and backlink research available where it supports that decision. A rising readiness score indicates that measured page features changed; a rising mention count indicates that more sampled answers named the business. Neither observation, alone, proves that the edit produced more sales.
- Assign one commercially useful page finding to its editor.
- Approve the proposed wording against a current source on your site.
- Keep the publication date with subsequent question results.
When you need a different kind of tool
Ahrefs serves an SEO team working with keyword demand, backlinks and large crawls. Lite includes 750 tracked keywords and 100,000 monthly crawl credits according to its October 2026 pricing page. Those requirements extend beyond Watch’s weekly ChatGPT and Perplexity report and sampled page edits, and they can justify a separate research budget.
- Keep keyword research where you can inspect search demand and the market being measured. OperStack does not supply keyword volumes.
- Use a backlink index for outreach or link investigation. A list of firms named in ChatGPT and Perplexity answers is a different dataset.
- Plan a full crawl for a large catalogue or migration. Watch’s page sample cannot clear every URL for release.
If those jobs already have an owner, the narrower Watch email can sit alongside them. Compare implementation help separately in our SEO agency guide.
Which one fits a clinic, an agency, a SaaS company or an online shop?
A clinic, a 10-client agency, a software company and a shop need different coverage. Watch fits a small set of ChatGPT and Perplexity questions and sampled page edits. A buyer needing daily multi-engine tracking should account for that difference; keyword research and a large crawl require additional tools whatever subscription they choose.
- A dental clinic or a small law office
The owner has no time for dashboards, and the brand has little search volume, which is exactly where Ahrefs says its index is thin. Watch asks ChatGPT and Perplexity the questions patients or clients ask, names the practices they recommend instead, and returns text to paste on the service pages. If an agency already handles the clinic’s rankings, that stays a separate job; Watch adds the ChatGPT and Perplexity side without anyone learning a new tool.
- An agency with ten clients
Ahrefs Standard, at $249 a month, includes 10 tracked AI prompts across its 20 projects: one prompt per client if you have ten. Watch gives each client ten questions every week, the named rivals and a priority page fix the agency can deliver as finished work, and ten subscriptions come to $350 a month (our arithmetic; there is no agency tier on our pricing page as of 26 September 2026). For pitches, the MCP server is free with no account, and one of its five tools lines up between two and four sites on one 100-point scale, from inside Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.
- A SaaS company
Software buyers ask ChatGPT and Perplexity for alternatives and shortlists, and Watch shows each week which products they name instead of yours, then points to the page and paragraph that could change the answer. Keyword research for a content calendar is a different task and sits with a suite.
- An online shop
Watch answers a narrow but valuable question for a shop: whether ChatGPT and Perplexity name the store when buyers ask where to get a product type, and who they name instead. Keyword data for thousands of category and product pages, and a crawl of the whole catalog, are SEO work for a suite.
Using Ahrefs and OperStack together, or switching
Keeping Ahrefs for keyword, backlink and crawl work can make sense alongside Watch at $35 monthly. Before dropping any AI package, record the questions, engines and history you still need. Watch covers ChatGPT and Perplexity weekly, so it does not reproduce every Brand Radar dataset or monitoring schedule during a switch.
What to keep in Ahrefs: Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Rank Tracker and Site Audit. Nothing in OperStack replaces them.
What to question: a Brand Radar add-on bought mainly to watch ChatGPT. The index is optional and is not required to buy Custom Prompts.
What OperStack adds: ten pages read and scored every week, the rivals named, and the paragraph to paste. Ahrefs’ Patches rewrite titles and meta descriptions; Watch writes the opening answers and other on-page text that AI systems quote. Watch asks ChatGPT and Perplexity only: the free check reads whether the crawlers of other AI engines can reach your site, but their answers are not tracked week by week.
How to move without a gap:
- Run the free check on your site. It costs nothing and shows three live ChatGPT answers.
- Start Watch. Within the first 7 days you pay nothing.
- If you drop the Brand Radar add-on or a plan, cancel from Account Settings. The plan runs to the end of the paid period, then the account becomes Ahrefs Free, which keeps Site Explorer and Site Audit for verified sites with 5,000 crawl credits a month per project. Ahrefs does not issue refunds in general, so time the cancellation to the end of a billing period.
Both MCP servers can sit side by side in Claude or Cursor. The Ahrefs one needs a paid plan and, for Brand Radar data, the add-on; ours needs no account and no plan. For Google’s own free search data, see how OperStack compares with Google Search Console.
What our data says about answer-first pages
The OperStack early sample (25 September 2026) recorded 214 of 496 scored websites without a qualifying opening answer on any sampled page, approximately 43%. That finding points to a page-writing task an owner can inspect directly. It does not measure Ahrefs performance or prove that adding an opening paragraph changes ChatGPT recommendations. Full study: 731 checks.
Source: our free checker, 25 September 2026, examining small-business websites in law, property and dental services across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Pages were sampled; the result does not mean every page on every affected domain was inspected.
| Recorded opening-answer finding | Websites | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| No qualifying opening in the sample | 214 | Review the first substantive paragraph |
| At least one qualifying opening | 282 | Other pages may still need work |
| Scored sample | 496 | Not a random sample of all businesses |
The second row is calculated as 496 minus 214. Qualification is a rule in our checker, not an external certification of writing quality. A paragraph can pass a length-and-number check while giving a poor answer, and a useful paragraph can fall outside a mechanical threshold.
An operator can use the finding by opening a service page, reading only its heading and first paragraph, and checking whether those lines actually answer the customer’s question. Include a number only when it belongs in that answer and has a source. Do not add a price, deadline or percentage merely to gain points.
Ahrefs’ research tools and a page-writing task therefore belong in different parts of the review. Our cases page explains the use of our own sites as examples. After an edit, save the old wording and observe the same questions again; a changed mention count is a follow-up observation, not proof of cause.
Our own site on the same check: oper-stack.com scores 93 out of 100 over 10 pages, measured on 7 October 2026. The number is measured again on every build of this site and never typed by hand.

Frequently asked questions
- Does Ahrefs have a free trial?
- No. On 3 October 2026 the Ahrefs pricing page offered no free trial and said the company never runs discounts. What it offers instead is Ahrefs Free, an account with no card and no expiry that includes Site Explorer and Site Audit for sites you verify, plus free tools such as the AI Visibility Checker. The cheapest paid entry is Starter at $29 a month; Ahrefs lists tracked AI prompts only for Lite and above.
- How much does Ahrefs Brand Radar cost?
- Ahrefs advertised Custom Prompts from $50 monthly for 2,500 checks on 3 October 2026. The separate AI Visibility Index starts at $199 per platform or $699 for all platforms. Lite includes 5 tracked prompts with its wider SEO suite at $129 monthly. Choose the relevant product before comparing prices: an indexed market view and your own tracked questions are different purchases.
- Is there a cheaper alternative to Ahrefs Brand Radar for ChatGPT?
- OperStack Watch costs $35 monthly or $299 annually. Ahrefs Custom Prompts starts at $50 monthly, while its separate index starts at $199. Watch combines 10 weekly buyer questions in ChatGPT and Perplexity, 3 rival checks, sampled page findings and proposed edits in a recurring email. It covers ChatGPT and Perplexity only and does not include Ahrefs keyword or backlink data, so compare the required work as well as price.
- Can OperStack replace Ahrefs?
- Not for SEO work. OperStack has no keyword database, no search volumes, no backlink index and no rank tracking, and it reads ten pages of a site rather than crawling thousands. What it covers is the AI visibility question on ChatGPT, plus Perplexity in Watch: whether your business is named, who is named instead, and which text on which page to change. A business can keep an SEO suite for the first job and use OperStack for the second.
- Does Ahrefs have an MCP server for Claude and Cursor?
- Yes. Ahrefs runs an official remote MCP server on every paid plan from Lite upward; Starter and Free accounts cannot use it, and Brand Radar data through MCP needs the matching add-on. OperStack's MCP server is free and needs no account: it scores a site out of 100, puts two to four sites on the same scale, checks llms.txt and reads your AI visit counter.
- Can I get a refund from Ahrefs?
- Usually not. The Ahrefs pricing page says it does not issue refunds in general; on a monthly subscription you may ask for one if you have not used the service, and Ahrefs can decline if it sees material activity. Cancelling keeps the plan until the end of the paid period, then the account drops to Ahrefs Free. OperStack Watch charges nothing in the first 7 days, and you can cancel any time.
- Is the free Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker enough for a small business?
- It gives a first look from a brand name: total AI mentions, mentions by platform and the top five topics, cited domains and cited pages. It does not compare you with competitors, it reads none of your pages, and Ahrefs says its index may have thin coverage for brands with little search volume. OperStack's free check takes your site address, reads ten pages and asks ChatGPT three buyer questions on the spot.
